4 Coats of Cetol Done - 3 To Go

The Kismet beautification project is going along on schedule. The biggest job is refinishing the teak. We have gotten it down to 3 hours to do one coat. We do it early in the morning before the sun heats up too much - it has been in the 90s this week. We have applied 4 coats of Cetol Natural and we will cover that with 3 coats of Cetol Gloss. Jim is also doing engine maintenance. Today he changed the antifreeze, and yesterday adjusted the valves. He has to replace the raw water pump as well. We are having fun here too...a couple of nights ago we were invited to dinner for 8 by an English couple here that is preparing their boat to sail the world; Jenny & Tony. They prepared quiche, salad, chicken salad, cole slaw, potatoes,& wine. Sailcraft also has a swimming pool - an afternoon swim has been great! Hopefully, we will be done by June 2nd.

Happy To Be Back in Oriental

Well, we are back! We had a good trip - fun visits with friends & family. Today we turned in the rental car, and Mary & Dave on "Mon Amie" drove us back to Sailcraft. Now the work begins again - refinishing the teak will be the biggest job - 5 coats of natural cetol and then 2 coats of gloss. Hopefully the weather gods will be on our side!

Hello From New York

A quick note to share good news. We drove to Cooperstown NY today for a mammogram and an appointment with the surgeon. The mammogram was quite anxiety producing - since the technician said "the radiologist wants to do an ultrasound". After waiting for what seemed a very long time, I had the ultrasound. The Doc came in and said that everything was good. Then I saw Dr. Ryan, who said all looked good as well - Hooray!! Next appointment in mid-October. We are staying with James & Peggy tonight (Jim's veterinary partner of 20 years). We'll go to dinner at New York Pizzeria in New Berlin later. Tomorrow we will see Adam & Lauren in Norwich, and we will head back to Oriental NC on Thursday.

On The Hard in Oriental NC

It looks like our Picassa is working again to post pictures. It's been awhile, but all is going well. We left Fernandina Beach on Saturday, April 23rd with "Cambia" & "Simple Pleasure". Did an overnight trip (32 hours), to reach Butler Island off of Winyah Bay in SC for the night. Stayed on the ICW with stops at Calabash and Wrightsville Beach. We hunkered down at the anchorage in Wrightsville to wait for a serious front to pass (with tornado watches!) for a couple of days. Then off to Spooner Creek; near Morehead City for a night with "Cambia". Of course, we had a make a dinghy run in to shore to the WalMart and to Luigis for pizza. After a night in Cedar Creek; off of Adams Creek we sailed over to Oriental to Sailcraft Services, where we were hauled out on Monday, May 2nd. I seem to be gaining every day physically. Yesterday, I even rode a bike to the Oriental Post Office to send off our Steiner binoculars for a repair and cleaning. We will be "on the hard" for the month of May, with a car trip to NY for a doctors appt. in Cooperstown. Jim is working VERY HARD! Painting the bottom, polishing the boat, changing the raw water pump, redoing the teak.........
