Touring Martha's Vineyard
After a lovely night in Hadley Harbor (by Wood's Hole), we motored over to Vineyard Haven to explore Martha's Vineyard for a few days with; of course "It's About Time". We took a great bus ride around the island (an all day pass is $7.00)to visit the towns of Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Gay Head, & Menemsha. All so different! Today we will depart Vineyard Haven and say good=by to "IAT" to go to Mattapoisett, MA to visit friends; Barry & Susan, cruising friends who live there.

Sitting in Pea Soup Fog on the Sakonnet River
We left Block Island with the intention of going to Marthas Vineyard, but....the wind was not in a good direction, so we headed to Wickford, R.I. for a couple of days. There were also strong thunderstorms predicted (which never came)! One night we anchored out and the 2nd night we got on a town mooring. "It's About Time" and "Kismet" went to Bristol, R.I the next day. Beautiful harbor and great walking town. Jim & I toured the Herreshoff Musuem - very interesting. There is a top notch Bagel shop in this town, as well! On Wednesday we motored down to anchor at Third Beach at the mouth of the Sakonnet River, with the plan to go to Marthas Vineyard today, but....the fog rolled in very densely, so we are sitting and waiting for the weather to improve. Plans are set in jello when you are cruising!

Fun in Block Island
Had a good time in Oyster Bay - toured Teddy Roosevelt's Home "Sagamore" for the second time. Then to Northport to anchor in a very crowded Sunday afternoon party scene. Next to Port Jefferson - there was no wind all day; until of course when we reached the anchorage. Next morning anchors up at 0550 - off to Fishers Island. We had a fabulous spinnaker run the whole 60 miles! Set the anchor at Fishers and went ashore with Conrad to check things out. On Wednesday we had a short hop to Block Island where we are today. Great spot! Anchored near "IAT". Welcomed "Island Spirit" into the anchorage after their grueling sail from Atlantic City. Lots of fun exploring - rented bikes yesterday for a half day. The hills were tough but we did it and it was worth it. At 1600, Ray and Marianne, 1st cruising buddies, came into the anchorage with their new boat. All three boats ended the day with mudslides at the "Oar".

Trip Through Hell Gate
After a fun visit with daughter Emily and her husband; Joe, we were ready to exit Atlantic Highlands. Son, Jamie, and girlfriend; Liz, boarded Kismet for the trip through NYC. We left at 0630 on Wednesday morning, and transited the East River at a high rate of speed - 11.5 knots through Hell Gate! We arrived in Port Washington at 1215, and picked up a free mooring ball next to Sally & Conrad, "It's About Time". After a shrimp scampi early dinner on Kismet, Jamie & Liz boarded the LIRR back to Manhattan. We are anchored in Oyster Bay Harbor for the weekend with "IAT".
