Lovely Long Island

We are in lovely Long Island. On Saturday, we had a not so perfect trip over here from Georgetown. Wind was on our nose at around 20 knots. The seas were abit rough going out the cut; by the time we reached Hog Cay the seas settled but the wind was still out of the wrong direction. We did sail around 3 hours (with tacking) and made about 5 miles in the right direction! After a 45 mile trip (should have been 30 something) we made it to Thompson Bay to set the anchor. We have ben enjoying life here, with "Mutual Fun", Rhapsody, and It's About Time". Things are pretty convenient - groceries, laundry, and today we will do internet. When in Long Island, it is recommended that you rent a car to see the island, so we did. Randy, Jeannie, Carol, and us rented the car and went sightseeing around the south end of Long Isand. We went to Clarencetown, the Blue Hole, Gordons, the ruins of the Diamond Salt Flats, and the highlight was a stop at Max's Conch Bar - the absolute best cracked conch ever! Not sure when we will leave here - weather dependent.

Arrival in Georgetown

We arrived in Georgetown, Exumas yesterday. This is a mecca for cruisers - today there are nearly 200 boats here. It is a very convenient stop for getting fuel, provisions, propane, access to internet, etc. There are lots of activities, i.e. volleyball, bridge, dominoes, basket weaving, etc. We anchored by Sand Dollar Beach - other popular spots are Monument Beach, Kidd Cove, Volleyball Beach, and Hamburger Beach. A cold front is coming through today so it is bit windy, but still warm & sunny. Today we hiked on a path to the ocean side & walked to St Francis Resort where I purchased 75 minutes of internet for $2.00! It gave me a chance to catch up on news, post to the blog, and other business stuff. The trip down the Exumas chain was beautiful-we stopped for a few days in the Lee stocking Island area. The water was exceptionally nice. We hung out on Leaf Cay where there were hundreds of iguanas! Jim and Randy on "Mutual Fun" went hunting for lobsters and came by with a bucket full! I learned how to clean them, and prepare them for cooking thanks to Conrad on "Its About Time". Fun! The beaches here are beautiful. Not sure of what our next stop might be - we are waiting for Ed & Karen on "Passages" to arrive - probably Long Island or Conception Island. Will post when we can.

Enjoying the Exumas - Black Point

This is the best internet connection so far - Lorraines Cafe in Black Point, Exumas. We are enjoying the beautiful weather and water. Traveling with Mutual Fun, It's About Time, and many others. It is nice to have no real agenda. Black Point is an interesting settlement. We did laundry in a very nice laundromat yesterday (1st time since Miami), were able to get water (our watermaker is not working - bummer), bought Lorraines mother's delicious coconut & whole wheat bread, and had cracked conch at Lorraines for lunch yesterday. Tonight there is a happy hour at Scorpios that we'll probably go to. What a busy life! There are about 20 boats anchored here. We will be moving towards Georgetown in the next week, so will update again from there.
