Getting Old Requires Advanced Planning

We all know that you should take care of legal matters; i.e. wills, POAs, Health Care Proxies, funeral arrangements, etc. way before we need them, but it is true! And how many of us do that? There are soooo many issues to deal with when one of our aging parents needs assistance with living, or even ourselves. Dealing with these matters before we need them helps to eliminate some of the details during a difficult time. We have been in the Port Jefferson NY area for two weeks now - Jim's Mom is in a nursing home here, after being hospitalized after 1 day in an assisted living facility. Looks like she will stay there for the long term. For one week we were at a mooring in Mt Sinai Harbor, and then we moved over to Port Jefferson Harbor to anchor over the long Holiday weekend. Tomorrow we will go back to Mt Sinai for another week on the ball. We have had a long list of To-Dos - including meetings with attorneys & healthcare professionals, realtors, visiting facilities, sorting through 45 years of things in her house in Point Lookout, and preparing the house for sale. Looks like we will be here for most of the summer. Last night we had a RINGSIDE seat on the boat for fabulous fireworks! Happy July 4th to all!

Sorry to hear about your mom's health issues. I've been going through a similar issue with my mom the last 10 months or so, it's not easy plus she lives out of state. Beware of the cormorants in Mt Sinai harbor. You will notice most of the sailboats have their mast heads and spreaders spiked to keep them off their boats.
